Why use ModAllergen Early Allergenic Food Introduction powders?
ModAllergen is the most comprehensive and diverse range of food allergens on the market. We cover Wheat, Soy, Shellfish, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Fish and Eggs. These foods account for 90% of current food allergies.
Based on scientific research to prevent food allergies, Early Food Allergen Introduction has been endorsed and recommended by Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA), National Allergy Council, Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia and world-wide allergy authorities.
ModAllergen Powders empower parents and carers to do so in a convenient form that reduces choking hazards and is ready to use.
What is Early Allergenic Food Introduction?
Early Allergenic Food Introduction means feeding your baby common allergy-causing foods as soon as they are ready to eat solids and before they turn 1 years old. This trains their body to recognise and tolerate these foods which stop allergies before they start.
However, if your baby has a diagnosed food allergy, do NOT feed them that food.
Research article on Early Introduction of Food Allergens may decrease risk of developing food allergies here.
When can my baby start using ModAllergen Powders?
As soon as your baby is ready for solids! The current recommendation suggest starting solids around 6 months of age but not earlier than 4 months. Look for signs of readiness from your baby as every baby is different. For more information on signs of readiness, read our article here.
What about if my baby has eczema?
Current clinical guidelines stress the importance of introducing common allergenic foods to babies with eczema before they turn 12 months of age.
The LEAP Study is the most widely known study. It jump-started the food allergy prevention research train after it showed babies with eczema who ate peanuts regularly were 80% less likely to develop a peanut allergy. The results also showed that the children who started eating peanut before one year of age and kept regularly eating peanut until 5 years of age, had less peanut allergy when compared to a group of children who did not eat peanut until age 5.
This is exactly why I created ModAllergen Powders for early allergenic food introduction. My eldest had severe eczema but I was told to delay the introduction of allergens (old and outdated recommendation!) and she ended up with food allergies.
ModAllergen Powders provides a convenient way to give babies allergenic foods early without choking hazards.
Will my baby have a reaction to ModAllergen Powders?
Although research shows Early Allergenic Food Introduction may prevent food allergies, it is impossible to say no baby will have an allergic reaction.
There are many factors involved that contribute to food allergies such as genetics, gut microbiome and skin health.
Early introduction of allergenic food before 1 year old is still the most recommended. Here is an important study that shows severe allergic reactions in babies under 12 months are extremely rare. The younger your baby, the less likely they will have a severe food reaction.
Most allergic reactions to food occur within 2 hours of ingestion. Read our article about signs and symptoms of food allergies here.
What should I do if my baby has a reaction?
If your baby shows signs of an allergic reaction after consuming ModAllergen Powder, stop giving that food and seek medical advice immediately. Symptoms can include hives, swelling, vomiting, diarrhoea, difficulty breathing, or a sudden drop in blood pressure. It's essential to act quickly and consult with a healthcare professional to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
